Istanbul Galata Tower
Galata Tower is one of the most historical and breathtaking place in Istanbul. When you climb the stairs and reach to the top of Galata Tower, you will definetly feel the sensation that the city of Istanbul is under your feet. Byzantine Emperor Anastasius ordered the construction of tower and it was completed in the year of 528. Although it suffered from a serious damage in 1204, the Geneoeses rebuilt and named it as, “Jesus Tower” in 1348.
When the Turks conquered the city of Constantinapole under the commanf of Mehmet the Conqueror, the tower went through so many restorations and repairment. All of the prisoners of war who were working in Kasimpasa shipyard were housed in Galata Tower.
Under the order of Sultan Murat III, it was turned into an observatory but it was closed in a short period of time. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Ahmet Celebi materialized the first appropriate flight with his artificial wings in the history of aviation. He took off from the 183 foot tall Galata Tower and landed successfully to Uskudar which is located at the other side of Istanbul. We recommend you taking as many photos as you can. How to go to Galata Tower
From the end of the Istiklal Street, you should walk down approximately 250m and then you will see the tower.

The entrance to Galata Tower is estimated 25 TL for foreigners.
