What to expect Istanbul is an endless treasure for exploration, imagine a city adorned with Ancient, Roman, Byzantian and Ottoman relics, all in one. So get ready for an epic journey of Istanbul while strolling around; the Roman Hippodrome, the Byzantian Hagia Sophia, The Ottoman Palace (Topkapi), Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar. During this tour you will be enchanted by the visit history of Istanbul and you will enjoy this great journey through the different ages of the city from “Byzantium” to “Istanbul”. At lunch time you will also have the chance to try the traditional Turkish Cuisine.

Itinerary

Meet with your local tour guide at the hotel lobby to start your Byzantine and Ottoman Empire tour.

Topkapi Palace:

This was the great imperial palace of the Ottoman Sultans between the 15th and 19th centuries. It was the administrative palace for the Ottoman dynasty for over 400 years. Had been home for 24 generations of Sultans.The palace served as the seat of goverment and contained a school in which the civil servants and soldiers were once trained. Today it functions as a palace museum and it houses interesting collections such as ; ceramics, glassware, silverware, costumes, treasury, sultan portraits and holyrelics.

The Roman Hippodrome:

It was the focal point of civil activities. The scene of horse and chariotraces and the center of Byzantine civil life. The Egyptian Obelisk and the Serpentine Column were originally brought by the emperors and used for the decoration of the Hippodrome. At the other side of the Hippodrome the German Fountain still functions today. The imperial lodge was located to the west of the Hippodrome today Sultanahmet square is a nice area for meetings. During Ramadan ending the evenings the fasting celebration sareheld in here, too .

Hagia Sophia:

It is an ancient Byzantine church, built by Emperor Justinian in 6th C.The structure was completed only in 5 years. It is a remarkable structure with its 56m high immensedome. Today it functions as museum where you can see both Christian and Islamic relics. Hagia Sophia is closed on Mondays and is replaced with Basilica Cistern instead.

Blue Mosque:

This 17th century mosque is famous for the beautiful blue tile work or namenting on it’s walls. It’surrounding six slim minarets distinguish it fromother mosques, built by Sultan Ahmed I in 1617.

Grand Bazaar:

The Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and the largest in door market in the world. There are over 4000 shops inside and 22 gates of the bazaar. There is a widerange of carpets , jewellery, ceramic, antiques and souvenirs shops here. Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and is replaced with Spice Bazaar.
