Rumeli Fortress

Rumeli Fortress

This fortress was built on the Bosphorus opposite to Anatolian Fortress. Because Sultan Mehmed II made some preparations for the siege of Constantinople.

This fortress was built in 1452 less than four months with the help of 7000 workers. And between this to Ottoman Fortresses there was long medal chain above the sea level. Because some ships were carrying some supplies to the Byzantine Emperor. And with the help of this chain Ottomans cut off these ships and sources. One year later, in 1453 Ottoman Empire conquered the old city.

After the conquest, it lost its military importance.
